Will you have to cut into my heritage door?

Only as much as the lock genuinely requires, and we tell you before we start. On a heritage-controlled door the answer is usually different hardware rather than a butchered door — a surface-mounted or rim option that achieves the same security without an irreversible cut.

What is the difference between a deadlock and a deadlatch?

A deadlatch springs shut behind you and opens with a key or handle. A deadlock has a bolt you throw deliberately, which cannot be pushed back — that is what actually resists a forced entry, and it is what insurers and strata rules usually mean.

Can you fit a lock that does not need a key from the inside?

Yes, and on most entry doors that is what you want: a single-cylinder deadlock keyed outside with a thumb-turn inside, so nobody is hunting for a key during a fire.

Can you match new locks to my existing key?

Usually. If the existing cylinders are a compatible profile we key the new hardware alike so you keep one key for the house rather than collecting a new one per door.

Can a tenant change the locks in NSW?

Not unilaterally in the ordinary case — a lock change on a rental is something the landlord or agent needs to agree to, and both parties are normally entitled to a key afterwards. There are exceptions, and situations involving domestic violence orders are handled differently and urgently. We fit the hardware; the consent is between you and the agent. Tell us the situation when you call and we will tell you what we will need to see.

Do window locks in a Sydney apartment have to meet a rule?

In strata buildings, yes — NSW requires child-safety devices on windows above a certain height that can restrict the opening, and the owners corporation is responsible for having them installed. If you are an owner or a strata committee arranging it, we fit compliant devices across a building rather than one flat at a time. Confirm the current requirement with your strata manager.
